Can I get a refund for unused tickets in a Ticket Book?

If you have two or more valid Ticket Book tickets (three or more for 200-yen section tickets), then you can get a refund calculated according to the method below.
Refund = purchase amount - (one-tenth of purchase amount X no. of tickets used) - 210 yen handling fee

Example 1: 3,000 yen purchase amount, 5 tickets used
3,000 - (300 X 5) - 210 = 1,290 yen
Example 2: 2,000 yen purchase amount, 9 tickets used
2,000 - (200 X 9) - 210 = -10 yen (no refund for a difference of zero or less)

Are ticket machines multilingual?

Ticket machines with LCD panels have an English interface. They are not compatible with other non-Japanese languages.

  • (Coming to the appropriate station)
  • Please buy a Regular Ticket for the fare until a station selling Commuter Passes. You will be refunded for the Regular Ticket when you purchase your Commuter Pass, so please do not exit the ticket gates at the station selling Commuter Passes. Instead, tell the staff at the station's information counter that you want to buy a Commuter Pass. Please note that we cannot provide a refund if the fare for the Regular Ticket was paid with a PASMO, Suica or other IC card or with a ticket from a Ticket Book.
  • (Returning to your regular station)
  • If you need a return ticket, you will receive one upon request at the Commuter Pass Counter (after paying for your Commuter Pass) for the trip back to the station from which you came. However, if your new Commuter Pass covers the trip then please use that instead.
When can I buy a Commuter Pass?

You can purchase a new Commuter Pass up to 7 days prior to the date it becomes valid. If you are renewing a Commuter Pass for use on the same section of the line, then you can purchase up to 14 days prior to the renewed pass' start date.

What about Commuter Pass refunds?
  • We only handle refunds for Commuter Passes sold by our company.
  • For the refund of a Commuter Pass prior to its start date, a handling fee of 210 yen is subtracted from the amount.
  • For the refund of a Commuter Pass after its start date, up to a certain date during the valid period you can receive a refund minus the days in use and a 210 handling fee. Note that a fraction of a month is counted as a full month in this calculation.
  • For a 1-month Commuter Pass you can receive a refund within 7 days beginning on the start date. For a 3-month or 6-month Commuter Pass you can receive a refund if the remaining time is 1 month or more. (A handling fee of 210 yen applies in all cases.)
  • When requesting a refund for a Commuter Pass, please bring a form of ID (driver's license, passport, health insurance card, student ID, etc.) to prove your identity. If a person comes in your place to request the refund, that person should bring a copy of an official form of identification for the Commuter Pass owner and the proxy.
